Sea Food Restaurant, Kent, UK

Studio G Interior Design was commissioned to create the interior scheme for this casual sea food restaurant in Kent, drawing on the character of a working harbour to create a relaxed, characterful space for all-day dining.

Commercial Interior Design

Our brief was to design a scheme that felt authentically coastal without tipping into pastiche — somewhere that could hold its own on a busy high street while still feeling like a proper seaside catch. We built the palette around soft duck-egg blue and deep navy, set against reclaimed brick and warm timber, with plenty of nautical detailing woven through in a way that feels considered rather than themed.

Design Development and Scope

Our scope for this project included:

Dining areas – oak-topped tables on black steel bases, some finished with encaustic-style patterned tiles, paired with painted cross-back bistro chairs in white with navy and grey upholstered seat pads.

Feature walls and wall art – exposed brick left bare in places, painted tongue and groove panelling in soft teal, and a custom hand-illustrated wave mural running through the space in ink-blue tones, alongside bespoke boat-print wallpaper.

Servery and back-of-house shelving – open industrial shelving in reclaimed timber and rope detailing, used to display crockery, glassware, and vintage-style ships’ lanterns.

Lighting design – a mix of enamel pendant shades in teal and navy, exposed filament cage lights, and woven rattan pendants over the bar, all suspended from an exposed scaffold-pole ceiling grid.

Specification and Detailing

Every element of the scheme was carefully specified, including:

Flooring in a warm, wood-effect finish to suit a busy commercial dining environment.

Joinery and shelving in a mix of painted and reclaimed timber finishes with rope trim detailing.

Mirrors and wall accessories, including porthole-style oval mirrors and distressed driftwood shelf brackets, adding to the coastal character throughout.

Soft furnishings and tableware, curated to complete a relaxed, harbourside feel from the dining room through to the bar.

The result is a warm, informal dining space with a strong sense of place — coastal without being clichéd, and built to work hard as a busy Kent seafood restaurant.
