Bespoke interior design scheme for new townhouse In Mill Hill, London
Studio G Interior Design was delighted to infuse character and style into a new-build townhouse in Mill Hill, a sought-after residential area in Northwest London.
While built to an exceptionally high standard, our client felt the modern five-bedroom property lacked personality and warmth. So, to create a more welcoming home we introduced architectural depth, bespoke joinery and decorative texture to combat the bland feel.
First, we installed bespoke art deco step style cornicing to add interest to the flat walls and reflect London’s classic period architecture. We also replaced the doors with new glazed and panelled designer doors with matching architraves. Adding period detailing like coving and panelling to a modern new townhouse softens any harsh, straight, angular lines and creates a cosier, more sophisticated, and less ‘boxy’ atmosphere
Bespoke cabinetry and soft furnishings
We commissioned a range of bespoke joinery including a media display cabinet, wardrobes and library all tailored to fit our clients’ exact specifications.
We then introduced rich, textural layers such as silk fabrics, plush rugs and embroidered cushions to create an elegant, lived-in atmosphere. New silk curtains beautifully complement the large bespoke bamboo silk hand knotted rug. Lighting was important too. We upgraded the standard fixtures, a decorative modern glass chandelier and statement table lamps add modern glamour.
Many of the lighting fixtures and wallpaper were exclusively sourced from the USA inspired by the client’s love of American décor during her regular visits. Additionally, as a company, we have considerable experience in sourcing various items from abroad, including Australia and the USA.
Texture, silver tones and geometric shapes
The bespoke handmade roman window blinds and wallpaper feature crisp, stylish geometric patterns that provide a sense of structure, calmness and order. The effect is one that feels more intentional and harmonious without making a room feel cluttered. In the formal lounge a pair of hexagonal mirrors, with burnished silver frames, repeat the geometric shape to maintain a cohesive design. The colour palette is soft and cool with silvery greys, deep blues and muted teals offering a refined, finished look.
Natural real walnut flooring
New dark walnut wood flooring replaced the existing carpet and achieves a stunning, high-contrast aesthetic when paired with the pale-coloured walls. The deep, rich brown tones and distinctive grain of real walnut bring warmth, depth and sophistication to the space. Walnut is a premium hardwood that combines luxury and practicality for our client’s modern lifestyle who also has an adorable dog.
This two-month project exemplifies Studio G’s interior design expertise in creating a private residence of exceptional quality and character. By focusing on personalised, detailed, and tactile elements, we transformed the previously bland, standardised rooms into unique and inviting luxury living spaces.
